An Okaloosa Island man noted for taking in transients was found slain  in his Edgewater Motel apartment.    

Rep. Robert Harden, R-Fort Walton Beach, said he could not support a bill to legalize sports betting, video gambling machines and card rooms - even if that bill would generate $150 million plus for public schools.

10 years ago – 2002

Incumbent Ron Stearns and Dick Pillsbury claimed two Mary Esther council seats in an election that drew little interest. Only 228 of the city’s 2,697 registered voters bothered to go the polls.

Three local Hardee’s were becoming Whataburgers.
